Today, on International Children’s Day, together with the other freedom of expression mandates from the UN, OAS, and AU, we are launching our 2026 Joint Declaration on the Right to Freedom of Expression and Access to Information of Children in the Digital Age.
As children’s lives become increasingly digital, protecting their right to freedom of expression online is more important than ever. In this Joint Declaration, we explore how to translate human rights into the realities faced by children. We conclude that to enable participatory democracy, we have to invest in the safety, inclusivity, and human rights protections of children. It is a prerequisite for stability, development, and security.
