🚨 MOSSEL BAY, KWANONQABA & DA GAMASKOP — HOW SAFE ARE WE REALLY? 🇿🇦💔
The latest crime statistics are concerning. Da Gamaskop recorded 19 attempted murder cases in three months, KwaNonqaba recorded 73 burglaries at residential premises, and Mossel Bay recorded 34 shoplifting cases.
First, I want to give credit where credit is due. 👏🏽 The police have recently solved a number of burglary cases, in many instances very quickly. I respect them for that, and we must acknowledge the good work when it happens. 🙏🏽
BUT… WE NEED TO HAVE AN HONEST CONVERSATION.
What happens when criminals break into your home in the middle of the night? 😔
You’re inside with your wife, your children and your family. Suddenly, you’re facing 10 armed men, and you have no idea whether you and your loved ones will make it out alive.
What are you supposed to do? Just sit there and hope they don’t hurt anyone?
We all know that the police have a difficult job, and I’m not blaming every police officer. But the reality is that people are becoming increasingly afraid in their own homes because they don’t know whether help will arrive in time.
A while back, I had an emergency and called the police. The response I received was along the lines of:
“We cannot come because no one is dead. There is only one police van on patrol, and that van is already at another crime scene.”
Imagine hearing that when you genuinely need help. 💔
I understand that resources are limited, but MUST SOMEBODY DIE BEFORE AN EMERGENCY IS TAKEN SERIOUSLY?
Why are we living in a situation where ordinary, law-abiding people feel defenceless, while criminals seem to know that the police might not arrive in time?
And this brings me to a difficult question…
⚖️ SHOULD WE ARM OURSELVES TO PROTECT OUR FAMILIES, OR MUST WE ACCEPT THAT WE ARE VULNERABLE IN OUR OWN HOMES?
Nobody wants to end up in prison for defending themselves. Nobody wants to take a life. But no parent wants to stand helplessly while their family is threatened either.
South Africans need better police resources, faster emergency responses, effective investigations and a justice system that holds criminals accountable.
We should not have to choose between protecting our families and risking our own freedom.
🇿🇦 MY QUESTION TO THE PEOPLE OF MOSSEL BAY, KWANONQABA AND DA GAMASKOP:
1️⃣ Do you feel safe in your own home at night?
2️⃣ Have you ever called the police during an emergency and been told they could not respond?
3️⃣ What do you believe needs to change to make our communities safer?
4️⃣ If 10 armed men break into your house while your family is inside, what realistic options do you have?
Let's have a serious and respectful discussion. No glorifying violence, no blaming innocent people — just honest answers from people who want to live safely in their own homes.
OUR FAMILIES DESERVE TO FEEL SAFE. OUR COMMUNITIES DESERVE BETTER. 🇿🇦❤️
