Marius Venter is the teammate everyone wants in their corner. Through pure heart, he fought his way from the Under-14 C side right into his school’s First XV, earning a spot in the Blue Bulls training squad.

Now, he's taking on the fight of his life off the pitch.

What started as a routine rugby scrape turned critical when a deep bone infection took hold in his knee, leading to five surgeries and a battle with a blood clot. His road to recovery is long, but his community is refusing to let him face it alone.

Over R276,000 has already been raised toward his R400,000 goal.

Mzansi has another big moment coming up on the global stage! 🇿🇦👑
Our Miss Intercontinental SA, Jolene, is heading to Egypt this January to compete for the international crown.

Earning the sash is massive, but getting across the world means taking care of flights and competition entry fees. The goal sits at R30,000, and over R12,000 has already been raised to back her journey.

Here’s the exciting part for local brands and entrepreneurs: Jolene is opening up dedicated feature content across her platforms of over 1 million followers for businesses that partner with her journey. Back her on the page, send through proof via email, and her team sets up the collaboration.

In the early hours of 11 October, a fire tore through Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay, taking Wezi’s family home with it.

Waking up to thick smoke is terrifying for anyone, but for 16-year-old Wezi, who is physically disabled and couldn't just get up and run, it was sheer panic. His family carried him and his baby sister to safety in time, but everything they owned was gone, including his wheelchair.
Wezi is a kind, gentle young guy who deserves a safe, accessible place to sleep.

The incredible part? The foundation is already built. Over 30 people have stepped into his corner, raising nearly R41,000 toward the R45,000 needed for building materials, basic furnishings, and a new wheelchair.

We are just R4,000 away from seeing this family back under a roof.

South Africa showed up in the best ways this week. 🇿🇦💛

A pair of work boots became a R14,500 wave of kindness. A young chess player earned his place on the African stage. A Durban hero turned five sea rescues into a dream of teaching children to swim. Duke found his forever home, and Francois began walking across the country to chase his aviation dream.

Five stories. One beautiful reminder: good people are still doing good things.

Douglas Green brought home silver from Singapore. Now, he has an invitation to compete in Las Vegas this November. 🇿🇦

For the Wellington bodybuilder, the next hurdle is covering the journey. His BackaBuddy campaign has already raised R2,200 from three donors towards the R80,000 needed for travel and competition costs.
An exciting opportunity, with people already in his corner. Go, Douglas! 🤍

Bhekani is a 24-year-old living with a disability, and his story hits straight to the heart 🇿🇦💙

After tragically losing both of his parents, Bhekani was left with no immediate family to care for him. His only support comes from a distant uncle. But at just 24, Bhekani deserves far more than an uncertain future - he deserves safety, dignity, and a permanent place to call home.

Right now, we are raising urgent funds to cover his basic daily needs: nutritious food, personal hygiene essentials, nappies, and a dedicated carer to give him the compassionate, hands-on support he needs every single day. 🌸

Our ultimate dream is to get Bhekani settled into a safe, full-time disability care home.

The good news? Thanks to incredible kindness, he’s already been blessed with a donated wheelchair, Jojo tanks, and initial care funding for the first month or two! 🙏

Here’s where we stand now:
We are working on getting his birth certificate and ID document so we can apply for his government disability grant to help cover long-term costs. But admin takes time, and Bhekani needs support today. Raising enough to secure a carer for the next 4 to 6 months gives us the breathing room to finalize his ID and get him into a permanent care home.

We may not be able to change the whole world, but together, we can completely change Bhekani’s. Every single rand makes a life-altering difference for him right now.

“Thank you for the difference you make in our lives.” ❤️
If you want to understand the kind of impact Theresa Pienaar has made, you only need to read through the messages pouring into her page right now.
To her daughters, she’s Mom - an avid mountain biker and their absolute anchor. To generations of young women, she is simply Teacher T: the English teacher and public speaking coach who taught them to hold their heads high, back themselves, and find their own voices.

Right now, Teacher T is fighting metastatic breast cancer for the second time, with the cancer having spread into her spine, pelvic bones, and lymph nodes. Her best fighting chance is a specialized targeted therapy, Truqap combined with Faslodex. Because medical aid will not fund it, the treatment comes to R67 000 every single month for the next 13 months.

That total is daunting, but the community surrounding her is proving to be even stronger.

Over 120 people have already stepped into her corner, raising more than R130,000 to keep her in the fight. The voices standing with her say it all:

“We love you so much, Teacher T!” — Giani

“Sent with love to a truly precious teacher.” 💛

Theresa spent decades showing up for everyone who walked through her classroom doors. Now, the circle she built is rising up to carry her through this next climb.

To join the circle backing Teacher T, you can follow her journey here: https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/theresa-pienaar
Passing this link into your school WhatsApp groups, alumni networks, and cycling circles keeps this momentum growing.

If Teacher T ever backed you, or if you simply want to surround her with strength, leave a message in the comments below and tag your old classmates! 🚴‍♀️

Every parent knows the instinct to protect their child from the world, but nothing prepares you for the moment serious illness turns everything upside down.

When Jordan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, his family’s daily routine overnight became a maze of specialist check-ins, blood tests, and hospital stays. Right now, he’s in the middle of his fourth immunotherapy cycle, taking on every challenge with incredible resilience.

Staying strong through month after month of treatment isn't easy, but the community that has wrapped its arms around this family has been a light in the dark. Every single person who checks in, shares his story, or keeps Jordan in their prayers is helping carry that weight.
To see how Jordan is doing, read his full story, or join the movement

supporting his care, click through to his campaign page here: https://www.backabuddy.co.za/campaign/supporting-the-veiga-family

Let’s keep that momentum going! Drop your words of encouragement for Jordan in the comments, and tag someone who always shows up when a family needs community support 👇

Muzi and Navan are NYC-bound! 🏃‍♂️🇿🇦

Securing a spot in the New York City Marathon is no easy task, so having Muzi Fodo (paraplegic athlete from Harding) and Navan Naicker (partially sighted runner from Westville) locked in for this November is huge news!

Now that their entries are fully paid and confirmed, the focus shifts to getting our KZN runners across the ocean and onto that starting line.

Teaming up with Achilles International, this BackaBuddy campaign covers their flights, accommodation, race nutrition, and the running guides pacing right beside them for every single kilometer.

How to get behind them:
Share this to your story, pass it on to your running groups, or drop a comment if you want the BackaBuddy link sent straight to your DMs.

Any extra rands raised past our goal will go directly to Open Hands Charity to keep paying it forward.

Let’s back Muzi and Navan and show NYC the power of KZN! 🙌✨ #
