📢 IMPORTANT SARS UPDATE – SECTION 18A

Attention all organisations issuing Section 18A donation certificates.

From 1 March 2026, new requirements apply to ensure your donation certificates and SARS reporting remain compliant.

Here’s what you need to know:

✅ Donor Income Tax Reference Numbers must be obtained
✅ Additional information is required for donations in kind
✅ Certificates must correspond with the IT3(d) submission to SARS
✅ IT3(d) reporting remains compulsory, including Nil/Null declarations

📌 If your organisation issues Section 18A certificates, now is the time to review your processes and ensure your donor information and reporting requirements are up to date.

📣 Tax Season 2026 is warming up… and SARS is not known for waiting patiently. 😅

The 2026 tax season is expected to commence in July 2026, which means now is the perfect time to start gathering your tax documents and supporting records.

To help ensure your tax return is submitted accurately and on time, please send us all relevant tax information as soon as possible.

⏰ Important Tax Season Deadlines:

✅ Auto Assessments: 1 July – 12 July 2026
✅ Non-Provisional Taxpayers: 13 July – 23 October 2026
✅ Provisional Taxpayers: 13 July 2026 – 22 January 2027
✅ Trusts: 13 July 2026 – 22 January 2027

Please note that late submissions may result in penalties and interest being levied by SARS.

📌 The earlier we receive your documents, the smoother your tax season will be.

📢 PAIA Annual Report Deadline Approaching!

The deadline for submitting your PAIA Annual Report for the 2025/2026 financial year is 30 June 2026.

If your organisation has an appointed Information Officer, Deputy Information Officer, or Admin Officer, ensure your report is submitted before the deadline to avoid non-compliance.

Reports can be submitted via:
🔹 Information Regulator eServices Portal
🔹 BizPortal (for CIPC-registered entities)

🚨 SARS Trust Penalties Starting 🚨

From 4 May 2026, SARS may impose administrative penalties for the late or non-submission of ITR12T Trust Tax Returns.

⏳ Monthly penalties can continue accumulating until all outstanding returns are submitted.

✅ Trustees should ensure that:
• All trust tax returns are submitted
• SARS registered details are up to date
• Compliance obligations are met on time

🚨 “Can SARS just wake up one morning and empty my bank account?”
NO… well… not that fast 😅💸

Before SARS can do a 3rd party collection (like instructing your bank to pay them), there’s a process:

📩 SARS must first send a FINAL DEMAND notice
⏳ After 10 business days, SARS may issue a notice of intent to appoint a 3rd party
✋ The taxpayer then has 5 business days to object

👤 Individuals can object based on basic living expenses
🏢 Businesses can object based on undue financial hardship

⚠️ Moral of the story:
Ignoring SARS emails is not a retirement plan 😅
