Local Credit Unions make large donation to replace K9 Rex

With K9 Rex approaching retirement age, the credit unions of Moses Lake stepped up to the plate in a big way, coming together to donate $25,000 for Rex's replacement. This amount will cover the cost of the new dog, as well travel costs for the handlers to pick the new dog out at the kennels in Alabama and bring him/her back.

As long as he stays healthy, K9 Rex will continue to work the road until the new dog is ready to go.

The credit unions that donated included GRANCO Federal Credit Union, Gesa Credit Union, Horizon Credit Union, Solarity and Spokane Teachers Credit Union.

We can't tell you how grateful we are for the community support from the credit unions. Our K9 program is not only a vital force multiplier to keep our officers safe, but also a great avenue for community engagement. The program has been completely supported through community donations since we got K9 Chief in 2018, including purchase of the dogs, medical insurance , training and equipment for the handlers and even dog food.

To make sure Rex gets his much-needed break, Gesa Credit Union teamed up with STCU, Solarity, Horizon Credit Union, and GRANCO Federal Credit Union to fully fund the acquisition and training of the Moses Lake Police Department’s newest K9 recruit.

Honoring a legacy. Supporting those who serve. 💙

This past week, Solarity was proud to sponsor the annual Joe Deccio Golf Tournament, hosted by the Yakima Police Patrolmen’s Association.

Sgt. Joe Deccio dedicated his life to serving others, first as a Cavalry Scout in the Army National Guard, including a deployment to Iraq, and later with the Yakima Police Department. After his passing in 2021, the tournament was established to keep his memory alive while supporting fellow YPPA members in times of need and providing scholarships for local students.

We’re proud to support an event that honors Sgt. Deccio’s legacy and continues his commitment to serving others.

🏆 Selah shows what community is all about.

We’re honored to receive a Selah Community Pride Award from the City of Selah for our sponsorship of Carlon Park.

From kids taking the field to families cheering from the sidelines, Carlon Park brings people together year-round. We’re proud to support the City of Selah as it invests in keeping these fields ready for the athletes, families and community members who make Selah such a special place.

🧡 Moses Lake showed up in a big way!

Our free Shred Day this past weekend helped community members safely dispose of sensitive documents and protect against fraud, but the generosity of everyone who stopped by was the real highlight.

Together, you donated a huge amount of food to the Moses Lake Food Bank, helping support local families in need. 🙌
