Did you get it right? It might sound surprising, but if a bear causes damage to your house, your homeowners insurance may have you covered.

Sudden, accidental damage caused by a wild animal is often covered. But damage caused by your pets, rodents, or insects is usually considered preventable maintenance and typically not covered.

Before a wild animal ever wanders into your house, give us a call to review your policy and see what’s covered.

It's true, according to a consumer poll by the Insurance Information Institute, only 43% of homeowners say they have a home inventory.

A home inventory can make a major difference during an insurance claim. It helps verify what you own, speeds up the process, and ensures you’re properly reimbursed after a loss. Taking a little time now to document your belongings can save you a lot of stress later.

Not every insurance policy is the same, so it’s important to review your policy to see what yours covers. Natural disasters commonly included in a home insurance policy are wildfires, windstorms, lightning strikes, and damage from snow or ice. Events that are usually not covered include floods, earthquakes, and landslides.

Call us to assess your unique risk and make sure you have the coverage you need.

Veterans Healthcare.. why would veterans need medical/healthcare insurance outside of the VA health system? well... many don't but many veterans need to combine VA care with private insurance, employer coverage, Medicare or Tricare to fill gaps and improve access. That's where we come in.. We are able to help you determine what those gaps are and how to navigate the "civilian" healthcare system. We not only find a appropriate plan but work with you throughout the year in case you need extra help such as finding physicians, getting those referrals and even help with claims.

1️⃣ Eligibility & Access Limitations

Not all veterans qualify for full VA health care.

Some veterans are not service-connected or have a low priority group
Enrollment can be limited based on income or discharge status
Certain veterans only qualify for limited VA services

➡️ Private or employer insurance ensures continuous access to care.

Long Wait Times & Distance to VA Facilities
VA hospitals and clinics may be far away, especially in rural areas (like Alaska)
Specialty appointments can have long wait times
Emergencies may occur far from a VA facility

➡️ Non-VA insurance allows care closer to home and faster.

Broader Provider Choice
VA care is generally limited to:
VA-employed providers
Approved community care providers
Private insurance allows veterans to:
Keep existing doctors
See specialists without VA referral delays
Access out-of-network care when needed

Coverage for Services VA May Not Fully Cover
VA health care is comprehensive—but not universal.
Examples where private insurance helps:
Certain elective procedures
Expanded mental health networks
Chiropractic, acupuncture, or alternative therapies
Faster access to diagnostics or surgery

➡️ Dual coverage fills coverage gaps.

Employer-Sponsored Insurance
Many veterans work for employers offering:
Group health insurance
Lower premiums through employer contribution
Coverage for spouses and children (which VA does not provide broadly)

➡️ VA care typically does not cover dependents, making outside insurance essential.

Coordination With Medicare (Age 65+)
For veterans over 65:
VA ≠ Medicare (they do not coordinate benefits)
Medicare covers:
Non-VA hospitals
Civilian providers
Nationwide emergency care

➡️ Medicare ensures full civilian access, especially when traveling.

Emergency & Travel Coverage
VA emergency care rules are strict:
Time-sensitive reporting requirements
Facility eligibility rules
Potential balance-billing issues
Private insurance or Medicare:
Pays immediately at civilian hospitals
Reduces financial risk during emergencies

Family Coverage Needs
VA health care generally:
Covers the veteran only
Does not replace family insurance

➡️ Private insurance allows one plan for the whole household.

Bottom Line:
Most veterans don’t choose VA or private insurance—they choose VA and private insurance.

VA care works best as:
A strong foundation for service-connected care
A supplement—not a replacement—for comprehensive family and civilian access

If you are a veteran or know of a veteran who may need information and possibly guidance in order to expand their healthcare options have them give me call. 907-217-2086

What is a Risk Advisor? Well, we help individuals or businesses identify, evaluate, and manage risks that could cause financial loss or operational disruption—and then recommends ways to reduce or transfer those risks. Using many different tools, we are able to work with you to find solutions for your risks. We do the shopping for you.

One of the ways we help individuals protect their assets is through Wills and Trusts. We offer Revocable living trusts, living wills, advance medical directives, wills, durable powers of attorney.
We have multiple options for this depending on your needs and intentions. We have do it yourself options and we also have a sit down and we walk you through it options. What are some reasons someone would want to do a trust?

1. Avoid probate: Assets held in a properly funded trust usually pass directly to beneficiaries without going through probate court, which can:
Save time (sometimes months to years)
Reduce legal costs
Keep the estate more private

2. Control how and when beneficiaries receive money
A trust allows you to set rules, such as:
Distributions at certain ages (25, 30, 35)
Funds only for education, housing, or health
Protection for minors or beneficiaries who may not manage money well

3. Asset protection (primarily irrevocable trusts)
Some trusts can help protect assets from:
Lawsuits
Creditors: Certain long-term care spend-down situations (with proper planning)

4. Incapacity planning
If you become incapacitated: The successor trustee can step in and manage finances without court guardianship or conservatorship
Bills, investments, and property can continue to be handled smoothly

5. Estate tax or Medicaid planning (advanced planning) Certain trusts are used to:
Reduce estate taxes for larger estates
Help with Medicaid eligibility planning (subject to timing rules)

6. Privacy
Unlike a will, which often becomes public record through probate, a trust generally remains private.
Simple way to think about it
Will: Instructions after death only
Trust: Management tool during life, incapacity, and after death

We also offer Bonds that compliment estate planning packages for trustees and executors. We have Administrator bonds, Executor bonds, Bond in a Will and Trustee Bonds.

Call us today and put your mind at ease that your loved ones will be protected.

One of my favorite parts of what I do is helping business owners solve problems especially around how to attract and maintain quality employees.

Recently, I worked with a local business that was facing rising healthcare benefit costs and considering reducing staffing just to stay afloat. Instead of cutting back on their people, we took a different approach.

✅ Re-evaluated their benefits strategy
✅ Reduced unnecessary payroll strain
✅ Added affordable wellness plans for employees
✅ Improved employee support without increasing overhead

The result?
👉 Lower overall costs for the business
👉 Healthier, happier employees
👉 No need to reduce staff or compensation

This is a perfect example of how the right strategy can protect both the business and the people who keep it running.

If you’re a business owner feeling squeezed by payroll or benefit costs, there may be options you haven’t been shown yet. Sometimes it’s not about cutting—it’s about restructuring smarter.

📩 Call me if you’d like to explore what that could look like for your business. 907-217-2086
