Last Wednesday a group of BOW employees participated in the 636 Community Run!

This run was about supporting the people, families, and programs that make our community such a great place to live and work and we were proud to be part of it and even more grateful for the opportunity to Do Good.

A big thank you to the Four Rivers Family YMCA, the volunteers, the runners, and everyone who made this event a success.

Scams don’t discriminate by zip code. This is important information for everyone and worth a quick read and share.

‼️ SHARK IN LION’S LAKE ‼️

Now that we have your attention, we would like to share some Friday Fraud Facts.

We couldn’t help but notice that when we make a post about a runaway piglet being captured by our officers, the post almost goes viral. However, when we post information aimed at preventing people from losing their life savings, the posts don’t receive nearly as much attention.

So, we’ll keep it short and sweet this week.

People in Washington are still falling victim to scams and reporting them to WPD almost daily.

For those wondering:
• Elon Musk is NOT going to contact you with an investment opportunity. That is a “pig butchering” scam.
• Reba McEntire is NOT going to begin an online romantic relationship with you and ask for money. That is a romance scam.
• NO law enforcement agency, bank, or official institution will EVER call and tell you your information has been compromised and demand payment through gift cards, Bitcoin, or cryptocurrency to “fix” the issue.

Yes, every one of these scams has happened right here in Washington. Please be careful. We truly care about this community and hate seeing our citizens lose their hard-earned money to scams that are so preventable.

When in doubt, slow down, talk to a trusted family member, and contact WPD before sending money.
