The FDA has approved Genglycos, the first-ever gene therapy for patients aged 8 and older with glycogen storage disease type Ia (GSDIa), a rare genetic disorder caused by a deficiency of the enzyme glucose-6-phosphatase. The condition prevents the body from properly converting stored glycogen into glucose, leading to dangerously low blood sugar levels.
