We all need purpose in life. For many of us, our career is it. In retirement, we have to find a new purpose. What is going to get you out of bed every morning and keep you satisfied? When you find it, you can’t feel bad about pursuing it.

Parton wanted retirees to find what they love, and to then do it with vigor. No apologies, even if it means spending some of your retirement savings on it. Find that joy, make sure you can afford it, and then take Dolly’s advice and “do it on purpose.”

It may seem simpler, but when all your money is lumped together, it can be harder to see what your money is actually supposed to do for you.
