🏡 The starter-home math is getting a little more interesting.

According to Redfin, the typical U.S. household now earns about $17,000 more than the income needed to afford a median-priced starter home, up from roughly $12,500 a year ago.

That’s encouraging, but national numbers don’t tell the whole story.

Redfin’s analysis assumes a 15% down payment and housing costs at or below 30% of income. Your actual buying power can look very different depending on your income, credit, down payment, loan program, monthly debts, and the local housing market.
