The holiday season brings family together around the table, making it a natural time to reflect on what matters most. For many, that includes deciding whether to help children and grandchildren now rather than later.
Because the decision to give to family is deeply personal, it should always reflect your own financial security, each family member's circumstances, and the values you hope to pass along. Sharing time together over the holidays also offers a valuable opportunity to communicate your intentions openly, ensuring your gifts are understood and appreciated in the spirit they are given.
To help guide your decisions, our Trust Company Oklahoma Insights team has summarized our Gifts to Family and Charitable Giving guide for your review.
Why you should review this now: Although most gifts must be completed by December 31, waiting until the final weeks of the year can create unnecessary delays and complications:
• Processing Delays: Stock transfers, Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs), and donor-advised fund contributions can take several business days or longer to process.
• Year-End Volume: Custodians and charities handle heavy transaction volumes in late December.
• Family Checks: Checks written to family members should be deposited before year-end to count for 2026.
