With rates still bouncing around, I keep getting the same question: should you pay points?
Here's the quick version β‘οΈ Paying points means paying money upfront in exchange for a lower rate and a lower monthly payment.
Sounds great, until you ask the real question: will you keep this loan long enough to actually recoup that upfront cost? π€
If you're planning to move, sell, or refinance in the next few years, points might not pay off. But if you're settling in for the long haul, or you just want that lower payment now, points can absolutely make sense.
In this market, it's not about right or wrong. It's about strategy, and your strategy should be based on your numbers, not a guess.
Bottom line: don't guess, run the math. I'm always happy to break it down for you so you know exactly what points are saving you, or not. π
