🍂 Fall Checklist: The $10 Mistake That Could Cost Thousands 🥶

Before you curl up with that pumpkin spice latte, take 10 minutes this weekend to prevent a winter nightmare.

Every year, frozen pipes cause massive hidden water damage. The worst part? If a pipe bursts because a home wasn't properly winterized, insurance carriers may look closely at whether proper maintenance was done before paying out. Here are 3 quick things to do before the first hard freeze:

🔌 Disconnect garden hoses: Leaving a hose attached traps water inside the pipe. When it freezes, it expands and cracks the pipe inside your wall. You won't know it's broken until you turn the water back on in the spring!

❄️ Cover outdoor spigots: Grab a couple of Styrofoam faucet covers from the hardware store. They cost less than $10 and save you a massive headache.

Harvest is almost here. One insurance question worth asking BEFORE you get in the field:

What happens if your combine or tractor goes down and you have to rent another one to keep harvest moving?

Depending on your policy and what caused the loss, there may be coverage available for the temporary equipment — and potentially some of the extra expense of keeping the farm operating after a covered loss.

The important part is figuring that out before you're sitting in the field with a broken piece of equipment and a crop that needs to come out.
