You may have seen headlines about Social Security's trust fund running low by 2032.
It's a real projection worth understanding, but it doesn't mean benefits disappear. Even without any changes from Congress, the program would still be able to pay a majority of scheduled benefits using ongoing payroll tax revenue.
Congress has made changes before to extend the program's solvency, and there's time for that to happen again.
In the meantime, it's worth reviewing how much of your retirement plan leans on Social Security, and whether it makes sense to diversify your income sources.
