“A market crash is coming — this expert predicted the last one.”
That subject line landed in a client’s inbox last week. Before reacting to it, we opened his plan. Roughly a third of that portfolio was in stocks. The rest was in bonds, real assets, and cash reserves, each with its own risks: rate risk, valuation and liquidity risk, and inflation drag.
The point was not that the allocation had “worked.” It was that he already knew what he owned and why. A headline is a poor reason to change a plan that was built for a purpose.
If the latest end-of-the-world email rattled you, revisit the strategy before you rewrite it. Results vary. Past results do not predict future results.
