Important Update for UTMB & Wellcare Members

If you are receiving text messages from UTMB and/or Wellcare, please take a moment to review the information directly from UTMB’s website regarding the current insurance update:

If you have Wellcare Medicare Advantage and are currently seeing UTMB providers, I encourage you to call the 1-800 number on the back of your Wellcare ID card as soon as possible.

Ask Wellcare about your options for continuity of care with your current UTMB providers. UTMB has announced that the Wellcare Medicare Advantage network change takes effect October 1, 2026, and eligible patients may be able to receive continuity-of-care coverage for a limited period, subject to Wellcare’s approval.

If you like your current insurance and, most importantly, don’t want to lose access to your UTMB doctors and providers, please don’t wait until the last minute. Call Wellcare now and ask what options are available for continuing your care with UTMB.

And please feel free to call me afterward. I can help you look at your options and find a new plan that is accepted at UTMB, if necessary during Annual Open Enrollment, or help you find other providers who accept your current plan.

The University of Texas Medical Branch and Aetna, a CVS Health business, have reached a multi-year agreement that brings UTMB facilities and providers in network for most Aetna health plan participants, effective immediately.
