For years, SEC teams begged for someone to end Alabama's reign of terror. They wanted competitive balance. They wanted everyone to have a chance. Well, congratulations. They got their wish. Now a mysterious force known only as PARITY is stalking the SEC, turning championship contenders into upset vi...

Find Your Way Home

Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, Georgia beat Alabama 20-17. But one of the most impressive moments of the night had absolutely nothing to do with the scoreboard.

It happened after the final whistle.

As Georgia linebacker Raylen Wilson was leaving the field, an Alabama fan reportedly called him over from the stands. Raylen approached, believing the man wanted to congratulate him. Instead, the man reached over the wall, slapped his helmet, and shoved him.

Raylen Wilson could have reacted a hundred different ways. He’s a 21-year-old SEC linebacker, one of the most physical players on that football field, standing in front of a man who had just put his hands on him.

But he didn’t swing. He didn’t shove back. He didn’t even argue.

He simply turned around and walked away.

And what Raylen said afterward makes the whole situation even more remarkable.

Under the video, he commented:

“I thought dude was a UGA fan tried to dap em up.”

Think about that for a second.

A young man who had just battled through four quarters of SEC football, emotions running high after a huge road victory, genuinely thought someone was reaching out to show him some love.

Instead, he was met with disrespect.

And his response? Nothing but composure.

That’s not weakness. That’s not backing down. That’s a young man who understands that being tough and being disciplined are two very different things.

And when you learn a little about Raylen Wilson’s upbringing, that moment starts to make a whole lot more sense.

His father, Robert Wilson, was a former NFL player who believed in raising his sons with discipline, faith, and hard work. He would have them up at 5:30 in the morning running before school. When it was still dark outside, he’d follow behind them in his truck, lighting the road with his headlights.

He wasn’t just raising football players. He was raising men.

Sadly, Robert passed away in 2020, when Raylen was only 15 years old.

But the lessons he taught his son never left.

Raylen has spoken about wishing he could thank his father for everything he did and hoping he’s watching over him.

Well, Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, those lessons were on full display.

Because anybody who has watched Raylen Wilson play football knows he’s not afraid of contact. He’s not afraid of confrontation. He’s not afraid of anybody standing across from him.

But there’s a time to be physical and a time to show restraint. And knowing the difference says more about a man’s character than any tackle he’ll ever make.

Proverbs 16:32 tells us:

“He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”

Georgia went into Tuscaloosa and earned a hard-fought victory Saturday night.

But Raylen Wilson walked out of that stadium with something even greater than a win.

He showed a hundred thousand people what self-control, maturity, and character look like when they’re put to the test.

And somewhere in all of that is a father whose lessons are still guiding his son, even years after he’s gone.

Robert Wilson raised a football player who knows how to hit. More importantly, he raised a man who knows when not to.

That’s the kind of young man every football program should be proud to have wearing its uniform.

That’s bigger than football.

That’s a Damn Good Dawg.
