Four months ago, I missed the spear throw.

One throw.

One chance.

One miss.

That miss cost me 30 burpees near the finish line and became one of the most memorable parts of my first Spartan race.

Last weekend, I came back for Race #2.

This time, the challenge was bigger.

✅ 10K course
✅ 26 obstacles
✅ 80 lb sandbag carry under barbed wire
✅ The highest wall I've climbed so far
✅ Heat, dust, and plenty of moments that tested my endurance

And when I got to the spear throw...

It stuck.

More importantly, I completed 26 out of 26 obstacles and crossed the finish line 15 minutes ahead of my goal.

What I've learned over the last few months is that improvement rarely comes from a single breakthrough.

It comes from showing up consistently.

The workouts.

The early mornings.

The practice nobody sees.

Four months ago, I was completing my first Spartan 5K.

Now I've completed a 10K and I'm already looking ahead to the next challenge.

The race lasts a few hours. The preparation lasts months.

Turning 40 started by carrying a 100-pound rock.

In April, I decided to challenge myself in a way I hadn't in years.

✅ Carried a 100 lb rock
✅ Crawled under barbed wire
✅ Battled through monkey bars and obstacles that tested every muscle
✅ Completed 19 of 20 obstacles
✅ Ran my first-ever 5K

The one obstacle I failed?

The spear throw.

You get one chance.

I missed.

In Spartan races, if you fail an obstacle, you take the penalty.

For me, that meant 30 burpees near the finish line.

Honestly, it was one of the hardest parts of the race.

But looking back, that's the part I remember most.

Since then, I've been training consistently and getting ready for my next challenge: a Spartan 10K in a few weeks.

This is the first chapter of a journey I'll be sharing here.

The race lasts a few hours. The preparation lasts months.
