🦚 STOP ASKING THE FACEBOOK POPULACE TO MAKE YOUR LIFE DECISIONS! 🦚
I'm going to say something that might ruffle a few feathers. And yes, I own a peacock-themed business, so I'm allowed! 😂
Facebook is a wonderful place to share pictures, reconnect with friends, and exchange ideas. But it is NOT a substitute for qualified, individualized professional guidance.
Whether you're seeking advice about insurance, healthcare, parenting, finances, relationships, or spiritual matters, one thing is almost guaranteed:
Ask 100 people on Facebook, and you'll get 100 opinions.
Some will be well-intentioned. Some will be based on personal experience. Some will be completely inaccurate. And a few will come from people who have absolutely no business advising anyone on the subject!
Here's the problem:
Their experiences are not YOUR circumstances. Their needs are not YOUR needs. And their best solution may be your worst mistake.
Let's talk about Medicare, because that's my wheelhouse.
When someone asks, "Should I choose Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement?" the comments inevitably start rolling in.
💬 "I LOVE my Advantage plan!"
💬 "Never get an Advantage plan!"
💬 "My Supplement is the BEST!"
💬 "My neighbor has a plan that gives her money back!"
And on and on it goes.
But here's what those commenters probably DON'T know about the person asking:
✅ Their medical conditions and healthcare needs.
✅ Their doctors, specialists, and preferred hospitals.
✅ Their prescription medications and associated costs.
✅ Their financial situation and tolerance for out-of-pocket expenses.
✅ Their travel habits and need for healthcare outside their local area.
✅ Their eligibility for certain plans, enrollment periods, and guaranteed-issue protections.
✅ The long-term implications of choosing one type of coverage over another.
That's where a knowledgeable, ethical, licensed insurance agent comes in.
A good agent doesn't simply tell you which plan THEY like or which plan pays THEM the most.
A good agent sits down with you, LISTENS, EDUCATES, and helps you understand:
🔹 How Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans actually work.
🔹 The differences in premiums, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, and potential out-of-pocket exposure.
🔹 Provider networks, referrals, prior authorizations, and access to specialists.
🔹 Prescription drug coverage and the importance of reviewing your medications.
🔹 What Original Medicare covers, what it doesn't, and how the two coverage approaches address those gaps.
🔹 The rules surrounding enrollment, switching plans, medical underwriting, and guaranteed-issue rights.
🔹 The advantages, limitations, and potential trade-offs of BOTH options.
And here's something especially important: Your decision today can affect your options tomorrow. Switching from Medicare Advantage to a Medicare Supplement later isn't always as simple as changing your mind.
A good agent makes sure you understand that BEFORE you make your decision.
The goal isn't for me to make your decision. The goal is to give you the knowledge and confidence to make YOUR OWN informed decision.
And sometimes, after reviewing everything, the best recommendation is to keep exactly what you already have!
The same principle applies to other important areas of life. Seek medical guidance from qualified healthcare professionals, financial guidance from qualified financial professionals, and spiritual counsel from trusted, knowledgeable spiritual leaders.
Friends can share experiences. Facebook can offer perspectives. But neither should replace the guidance appropriate to your individual circumstances.
Your healthcare is too important to be decided by a Facebook popularity contest.
🦚 At Peacock Life and Health, I believe in education BEFORE enrollment, understanding BEFORE decisions, and putting PEOPLE before policies.
Because the best Medicare plan isn't the one your neighbor, family member, or even your doctor loves.
It's the one that best meets YOUR needs.
