Landlord insurance and renter’s insurance work together, but they protect very different things.

A common misconception is that a landlord’s policy covers a tenant’s belongings. In reality, landlord insurance is designed to protect the building itself, while renter’s insurance helps protect the tenant’s personal property and liability.

If there’s a fire, break-in, water damage, or vandalism, your furniture, clothes, electronics, and other belongings may not be covered without a renter’s policy. Renters insurance is typically very affordable and can provide valuable peace of mind.
