Your family may inherit your memories, values and traditions—but life insurance can help prevent them from inheriting the financial strain of unpaid obligations. Coverage may help with debt like outstanding medical bills, student loans, and even credit card debt.

Review the obligations your family would need help covering.

The best leaders never stop being students.

Last Friday, I was at our kickoff meeting in Napa when our Managing Partner shared a quote that immediately took me back.

"Work harder on yourself than you do on your job." — Jim Rohn

I first heard those words nearly ten years ago, when I made a commitment to my personal growth.

Back then, I thought success came from working harder.

Today, I realize something even more important.

Success begins with becoming.

That's why I continue to invest in rooms that challenge me. Because leadership isn't just learned—it's caught.

I've come to believe that when you intentionally surround yourself with leaders who model integrity, discipline, humility, and vision, something begins to happen.

Your language changes.

Your thinking changes.

Your standards rise.

Your confidence grows.

You begin to mirror the qualities you admire.

I've also learned there's a difference between instruction and influence.

Anyone with a title can give instructions.

But true leaders influence others through the way they live. Their character teaches long before they ever speak.

Proverbs 27:17 says,

"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."

The older I get, the more I realize that choosing the right environment is one of the most important leadership decisions we can make.

Because the people around us don't just influence our success...

They shape the person we're becoming.

And the day we stop being students is the day we stop growing as leaders.

Who has sharpened your leadership journey the most?

Every leader has a why.

But not every leader has the right motive.

Lately, as I've been preparing for my next chapter in management, I've found myself asking a deeper question:

Why do I want to lead?

The answer wasn't enough.

I had to ask...

What is my motive?

I've come to believe there's a difference.

Your why is the reason you act.

Your motive is the intention behind your reason.

Two people can pursue the same position for completely different motives.

One seeks recognition.

Another seeks responsibility.

One wants followers.

Another wants to develop leaders.

As for me, I believe every person is created in the image of God with gifts, purpose, and untapped potential.

My motive isn't to collect titles.

My motive is to help people discover who they're capable of becoming.

That's why I'm pursuing leadership.

Not because I want people to follow me.

Because I want to help others lead.

Before you pursue your next promotion, business, or opportunity, ask yourself one question:

What is your motive?

Because your motive will shape your decisions, your influence, and ultimately your legacy.

Another book added to the library.

Every book I read leaves me with one question:

Who do I need to become to lead at the next level?

Man Up by Bedros Keuilian challenged me in three areas that every man—and every leader—should wrestle with.

1. Take ownership.
The moment you stop blaming people, circumstances, or timing is the moment your growth accelerates. Responsibility isn't a burden; it's the doorway to freedom.

2. Build discipline before chasing success.
Motivation comes and goes. Discipline stays. The life you want is built through the choices you make when nobody is watching.

3. Lead yourself first.
Your family, your team, your clients, and your community will rarely rise above the standard you set. Leadership isn't about influence alone—it's about example.

As I closed this book, I realized something.

Every season of growth demands a different version of you.

The question isn't whether you're capable of more.

The question is:

Are your daily habits creating the person God has called you to become?

That's the challenge I'm taking with me from this book.

Not just to know more.

To become more.

What's one book that has genuinely changed the way you lead or live? I'd love to add it to my reading list.
