When we discovered that CEFC Board Member Bridget H.'s grandmother, Louise McCarron Herring, helped found the credit union movement in the U.S., her role as one of our founding board members made even more sense!

We recently sat down with Bridget for our first Board Spotlight Q&A and she shared her take on equitable lending, the connectivity between preparedness and disaster relief, CEFC's superpower, and where she sees our organization going next.

As our summer internship program winds down, we are closing out our spotlight series with Aiyana. Aiyana has been on the ground identifying energy-efficiency and HVAC contractors in South Carolina, helping connect underserved communities with the resources they need to lower their energy bills.

Off the clock, she loves staying active and bouncing between the gym, yoga, journaling, and video games ... we love the range! Thank you for everything you've done to help our programs grow in SC this summer, Aiyana!

πŸ‘€ πŸ“£ Did you see our Summer 2026 newsletter? πŸ“£πŸ‘€ It's where we're sharing about: a bridge loan that helped a small SC town power up a community hub, a Greensboro homeowner's stress-free HVAC upgrade through Carolina SURE, warm welcomes for a new team member and summer interns, and a reflection on our past fiscal year.

Say hi to Grant, one of CEFC's 2026 summer interns.

He's helping develop a new financial product designed to help small businesses access capital while supporting underserved communities, the kind of work that sits at the intersection of finance and real-world impact. When Grant isn't diving into sustainable finance policy, he's plotting his next trip through Latin America, inspired by the time he spent studying abroad in Brazil.

Share Grant's story with a contractor/small business that you think could benefit from this work! πŸ› πŸ•ΆπŸ‘

We're excited to introduce Matt Schuneman, CEFC's new Senior Program Manager of Carolina SURE.

Matt is leading Carolina SURE, our loan program helping more Carolinians afford home upgrades that help make their homes more comfortable and efficient. He spent the last few years at the NC Department of Environmental Quality helping income-eligible families access efficiency, and electrification upgrades, and now he's bringing that same drive to CEFC.

Welcome to the team, Matt, we’re thrilled to have you!

This summer, we've added four incredible young professionals to our team as CEFC interns. We'll be sharing more about them in the coming weeks, in the meantime here's what they're working on across our programs:

Grant is teaming up with Jordan to help develop a new Loan Loss Reserve product.

Ellie is supporting Jen in CEFC's work on electric school buses, septic system repair and replacement, and multifamily affordable housing solar potential.

Will is working alongside Jen to analyze the financing needs of small system water utilities throughout NC.

Aiyana is partnering with Sam to help strategize the growth of our contractor network in South Carolina.

We're proud to help bring on the next generation of leaders in this space. Welcome to the team, Aiyana, Ellie, Grant, and Will!
