🧴🧹 Small business owners: Is your bookkeeping stinky?

Time to hire a cleaning service! Your books will shine and smell great, too!

We quote a flat fee, not hourly services, so you know what $$ you're in for before we even start. Don't get socked with HUGE invoices after the fact.

💡 Cleaning up messy books? Here's a tip: Use your Balance Sheet as your guide. Gather all documentation ahead of time (bank and loan statements, sales tax account balances, payroll liability info). Make sure each line item on the balance sheet ties to documentation on hand. Make adjustments, but be sure to work within the current period without changing any prior periods.

🧽🙈 MYTH: DIY bookkeeping is always cheaper and just as effective.

TRUTH: Sometimes. Much of my business comes from DIYers who now have a mess.

1) Clean-up costs can be astronomical (think monthly bookkeeping costs x the number of months of clean-up PLUS penalties and interest for unfiled taxes).

2) Many DIY clients end up with double-entries that double-report income, causing taxes to be higher.

3) Tax deductions are often missed when people do their own bookkeeping.

If bookkeeping isn't your expertise, either take classes to learn how to do it correctly or hire a professional bookkeeper!

📣 Direct quote from this week, "I didn't think we needed a bookkeeper, but now I can't imagine NOT having one."

Many business owners don't think they need a bookkeeper.

But, if I had a nickel for every client who reached out in regret once they were over their heads, I'd take a nickel bath. Seriously. A bathtub full of nickels. Nevermind. That would be weird. But it would be a lot of nickels - that's the point!

😳 Don't overpay on payroll fees! It's worth a few minutes to login to your payroll platform and remove any employees that are "inactive." You may be paying just for having them in your employee list.
