We don't plan for a stroke.

But what if?

Heart disease and cancer remain the two leading causes of death in the United States, with stroke also among the leading causes.

Those aren't comfortable things to think about. But preparation isn't about expecting the worst. It's about understanding the financial risk before life changes.

Your health coverage may help pay for your medical care.

But what about the costs you're still responsible for?

🏥 Deductibles, copays or coinsurance
🚗 Transportation back and forth to treatment
🏠 Everyday household expenses
💵 Lost income or unexpected expenses

That's why I talk to my clients about layers of protection.

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about preparation.

Over the past year, I've stepped outside of my comfort zone in more ways than I expected.

I've built things I had never built before. I've said yes to opportunities that challenged me. I've had moments when I questioned whether I was ready for what was in front of me.

But somewhere along the way, I realized something:

I've been praying for growth while God has been giving me opportunities to grow.

And growth isn't always comfortable.

Sometimes God stretches your capacity before He reveals what you'll need it for.

Sometimes He calls you higher before you feel completely ready to go.

I'm learning to look at those moments differently.

Instead of always asking, “Why is this uncomfortable?”

I'm learning to ask, “What is this preparing me for?”

I don't know everything God has ahead of me.

But I do know I've grown because He wouldn't allow me to remain comfortable.

And maybe that's the lesson:

The stretch may be the preparation for the greater you prayed for.

AEP is coming, but before you sit down for your Annual Medicare Review, start with YOU.

Ask yourself:

🤔 What changed for me this year?
Did you start seeing a new doctor? Add or change a medication? Have a new health concern? Change pharmacies?

🤔 What frustrated me about my current coverage?
Was there an unexpected copay? A prescription issue? A benefit that didn’t work the way you expected?

🤔 What matters most to me going into next year?
Keeping your doctors? Prescription coverage? Managing your healthcare costs? Certain benefits?

And maybe your answer is:

“Honestly, my coverage worked well for me this year.”

That matters too.

Because an Annual Medicare Review isn’t about finding a new plan.

It’s about making sure your coverage still fits your life.

Your needs, concerns and priorities should guide the conversation, not the other way around.
