👁️ Quick myth-buster: Cataract surgery is NOT covered under your vision plan.

A lot of people assume it is — but cataract surgery is actually a medical procedure, which means it falls under your MEDICAL coverage (Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement), not your vision benefits.

Vision plans are typically for things like eye exams, glasses, and contacts — not surgical procedures. Knowing the difference can save you a lot of confusion (and unexpected bills) down the road.

🦷 $3,000 in dental benefits sounds like a lot... until you actually need a crown or root canal.

Crowns alone can run $700–$1,500. If you're responsible for 50% of that, you're looking at a serious out-of-pocket hit fast.

Here's a real example: a 100% cleaning coverage plan sounds great (and it is!) — but that same plan may offer ZERO coverage for crowns or root canals unless you buy up. And even after buying up, you're often still looking at only 50% coverage in most cases.

Moral of the story: know exactly what your plan covers beyond the basics — before you need it.

But here's where people get tripped up: it's not just about how much coverage you have, it's about what's actually covered vs. what's not.

Case in point — we just had a call from someone who had $2,000 worth of dental work done... and the insurance wouldn't cover it. Why? She never gave her new dentist her updated insurance info before the work was done. 😳

🦷 Before you sit in that dentist chair — do this FIRST.

Whether you're on Medicare, have a standalone dental plan, or get coverage through your employer, don't let any work get done until you know exactly how it's covered. And don't just assume — check that your dentist is actually IN NETWORK. Even with dental admission hearing plans, network matters. When in doubt, call your dentist directly and confirm they accept your specific plan.

Skipping this step is how people end up with surprise bills. 💸

Coming from a traditional group or individual health plan? You're probably used to steep deductibles — $5,000, $10,000, sometimes more if you end up in the hospital.

Then people get to Medicare and discover a Medicare Supplement plan works differently. Pay your premium, and depending on your plan — like a Plan G — your main exposure might just be the annual Part B deductible, which Brad & Mike mentioned is $283 in this episode.
