Crawford Catastrophe Services is monitoring the fast-moving wildfires impacting eastern Washington, including the Spokane-area fires that have forced evacuations and destroyed or damaged hundreds of structures. State officials have reported active incidents including the Autumn Lane, Old Trails and Fairview fires, and Washington has issued a statewide wildfire emergency and burn ban due to drought conditions, unusually high temperatures and high winds.

Poor air quality and smoke remain concerns across impacted communities, while crews continue working to contain the fires and protect homes, businesses and critical infrastructure.

Tropical Storm Bertha made landfall in Louisiana on Wednesday and is now moving west near the Louisiana coast, with the system expected to reach the upper Texas coast later today. As of the latest National Hurricane Center advisory, Bertha had maximum sustained winds near 45 mph, with tropical storm warnings in effect from Morgan City, Louisiana, to Sargent, Texas.

Heavy rainfall, gusty winds, coastal flooding and isolated flash flooding remain possible across portions of the northern and northwestern Gulf Coast as Bertha continues west. The storm is expected to move inland over Texas this evening and dissipate late tonight or Friday.
