Some financial surprises are a little scarier than others.

An outdated beneficiary designation. An estate plan that hasn't been revisited in years. A financial strategy that no longer reflects your current circumstances. These are the kinds of loose ends that are easy to put off, especially when life gets busy.

The good news? A little proactive planning can go a long way toward avoiding unwelcome surprises down the road.
This Halloween, enjoy the treats, skip the tricks, and give your financial future a little attention.

Life changes. Priorities shift. Markets move. Tax laws change. Retirement gets closer. That’s why financial planning isn’t a one-time exercise.

A thoughtful financial plan should evolve with you—helping you evaluate new opportunities, make decisions, and understand how one choice can affect another.

The goal isn’t simply to have a financial plan. It’s to have a plan that continues to fit your life.

On October 6th, we had the pleasure of welcoming clients and their family members to our Family Love Letter Seminar, where we explored the importance of organizing essential information, communicating wishes, and preparing loved ones for life's unexpected moments.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so meaningful. We hope the conversations started that evening continue around family tables for years to come!

Cash can feel especially reassuring in retirement. It’s available when you need it, it doesn’t fluctuate with the market, and seeing a healthy balance in the bank can feel like the definition of playing it safe. But too much cash can come with a cost of its own. Inflation, low interest rates and lost purchasing power can quietly affect money that sits on the sidelines for too long.
So how much cash is enough? The answer isn’t necessarily a dollar amount. It starts with a better question: What does this money need to do for me?

In our latest blog, we look at the role cash can play in retirement—and when “playing it safe” may create a different kind of risk. Read more: https://www.myparliamentwealth.com/blog/the-100000-sitting-in-your-checking-account-might-be-costing-you-more-th

For generations, paying off the mortgage before retirement has been considered a financial milestone. But is it always the right move?

Your interest rate, cash reserves, taxes, investment strategy and retirement income needs can all play a role in the decision. In our latest blog, we look at what to consider before using a significant portion of your savings to eliminate your mortgage.

You can’t predict every market shift, tax change, unexpected expense or turn life may take. And good financial planning isn’t about trying to.

It’s about building a strategy that can adapt when circumstances change, so one unexpected event doesn’t have to change everything you’re working toward.

You can’t control the weather. But you can plan for it. At Parliament Wealth, we help our clients prepare not only for what they expect, but for the possibilities they may not see coming.

What are you really saving for? Maybe it’s retiring while you’re still young enough to travel. Helping your children get started without sacrificing your own future. Having the freedom to say yes to an opportunity—or simply spending more time with the people you love.

Those are the reasons behind the numbers. Financial planning helps connect the money you’ve worked hard to build with the life you want that money to support. Because ultimately, the question isn’t just “How much will I have?” It’s “What will it allow me to do?”

You’ve built a life—one decision, one milestone and one chapter at a time. A career. A home. A family. A future you’ve worked hard to create.

September is Life Insurance Awareness Month, making it a good time to consider whether the protections you have in place still reflect the life you have today.

As your family, income, assets and responsibilities change, your needs may change too. That’s why protection is an important part of the bigger financial picture.
Financial planning isn’t only about building wealth. It’s also about helping protect what you’ve built.

September has a way of bringing routines back into focus. And with 3.5 months remaining in the year, it can also be a good time to revisit the financial goals you set back in January.

Maybe there’s an account you meant to review. A retirement contribution you wanted to revisit. An estate document that still needs updating. Or simply a financial question you’ve been meaning to ask.

You don’t need a new year to make progress. Sometimes, September is a great place to start.
