⚡ It all started with a kite, a key, and a very curious Ben Franklin.

More than 270 years later, we're still learning about the power of lightning. While we often think of lightning as a dramatic flash in the sky, it remains one of the most costly and destructive parts of storm season.

Lightning is responsible for thousands of fires across the United States each year and millions of dollars in property damage. It can damage homes, electronics, appliances, outbuildings, and yes, even livestock. A single strike can impact an entire herd in seconds.

As Missouri storm season rolls on, it's a good reminder that sometimes the dangers you can't predict are the ones worth preparing for.

Small enough to know you, but strong enough to serve you.

Every town has landmarks that become so familiar, people stop seeing them.

To us, it's just "the grandstands."

But stop and really look at them. They've stood watch over generations of kids chasing fly balls, turning double plays, and dreaming a little bigger than yesterday. (And yes, even cattle shows, rodeos, greased pig competetions, and draft horse pulls)

I grew up playing on this field. Now my son does too.

After his very first game here a few years ago, he looked at me and said, "Dad, this is my favorite stadium to play in."

He didn't say field. He said stadium.

Maybe that's because kids still see what the rest of us have gotten used to. They notice the size, the history, the feeling that comes from stepping onto a place where so many came before them.

One day he'll realize just how rare this place really is. Until then, I'm happy seeing it through his eyes.

Sometimes it takes the next generation to remind us what we've had all along.
