Before colder weather arrives, now is a great time to tackle a few fall maintenance items:

🏠 Clean gutters and downspouts
🔥 Have your chimney and heating system checked
🚰 Disconnect outdoor hoses
🌳 Trim dead or damaged tree limbs
🔋 Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
❄️ Check pipes in areas that could freeze

A little maintenance now can help prevent bigger problems later!

💗🌾 National Farm Safety & Health Week | Cancer Prevention & Women’s Health

Farmers spend countless hours caring for their land, livestock, equipment, and families. Today’s reminder is to make your own health a priority, too.

A few simple steps can make a difference:

☀️ Use sunscreen and protective clothing during long days outdoors.
🧤 Wear appropriate protective equipment when handling pesticides and chemicals.
🚿 Wash up and change clothing after potential chemical exposure.
🔎 Pay attention to changes in your skin and talk with your healthcare provider about concerns.
🩺 Keep up with routine checkups and recommended cancer screenings.
💗 Women on the farm—don’t let your own appointments and screenings fall to the bottom of the to-do list.

You take care of a lot. Remember to take care of yourself, too.

🌾 Prevention belongs on every farm’s checklist.

⚠️🌾 National Farm Safety & Health Week | Confined Space Safety

Grain bins, silos, manure pits, and other confined spaces can present serious and sometimes hidden dangers on the farm.

Before entering a confined space:

🔒 Shut down and lock out equipment.
🌾 Never enter flowing or moving grain.
👥 Never enter alone - have someone outside who can assist.
🦺 Use proper safety and rescue equipment.
⚠️ Be aware of hazardous gases and low-oxygen environments.
📞 In an emergency, call 911 rather than attempting an untrained rescue.

It only takes seconds for a routine job to become an emergency.

No load of grain and no job is worth a life. Farm safe. 💚

For many families in our community, farming isn't just a job, it's a way of life passed from one generation to the next.

As we teach the next generation how to care for livestock, operate equipment, and work the land, let's make safety part of those lessons, too.

🚜 Lead by example around equipment.
🌾 Give children age-appropriate responsibilities.
⚠️ Talk openly about farm hazards.
🔑 Keep keys and equipment inaccessible to young children.
💚 Make safe habits part of the family's everyday routine.

During long days in the field:

💧 Drink plenty of water.
🥪 Don't skip meals.
😴 Take breaks and recognize when fatigue is setting in.
👂 Protect your hearing around loud equipment.
☀️ Use sun protection during long days outdoors.
📱 Let someone know where you're working, especially when working alone.

The work will still be there tomorrow.

🚜🌾 National Farm Safety & Health Week | Equipment & Rural Roadway Safety

Harvest season means more tractors, combines, trucks, and other farm equipment on our rural roads.

A few reminders for a safer harvest:

✓ Slow down when approaching farm equipment.
✓ Leave plenty of following distance.
✓ Never pass unless you have a clear view and it is safe and legal.
✓ Watch for wide turns and oversized equipment.
✓ Farmers-check lights, reflectors, and slow-moving vehicle signs before heading out.
✓ Shut equipment down completely before making repairs or clearing jams.

Whether you're behind the wheel of a tractor or a car, a little patience can make all the difference.
