Miami County Sheriff’s Office Conducts “Operation Vigilant”
On June 3, 2026, the Miami County Sheriff’s Office led Operation Vigilant, a multi-agency operation focused on checking the compliance of registered s*x, drug, and violent offenders in and around Paola, Kansas.
The operation was conducted with six teams comprised of personnel from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office, Osawatomie Police Department, Kansas Department of Corrections, United States Marshals Service, United States Secret Service, Paola Police Department, and the Kansas 6th Judicial District Community Corrections.
Teams were assigned multiple offenders and conducted compliance checks at their residences and places of employment to verify adherence to Kansas statutes regulating their convictions.

15 drug offender compliance checks
14 violent offender compliance checks
3 arrests made
17 cases generated by the Sheriff’s Office to submit to the County Attorney’s Office
8 electronic devices seized
1 additional case through Paola Police Department

This was the second operation of its kind conducted by the Sheriff’s Office in the last nine months, aimed at enhancing community safety through offender compliance and accountability. The coordinated efforts of federal, state, and local agencies play a vital role in promoting public safety and ensuring offenders remain in compliance with court-ordered requirements.
The Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere appreciation to all agencies that assisted with the nine-hour operation. A special thank you goes to Miami County EMS for providing personnel and an ambulance on standby in the event of a medical emergency.
