LEGION PARK RIVER ACCESS PROJECT - Connecting Okanogan With Our River
The Rotary Club of Okanogan-Omak is proud to partner with the City of Okanogan on a project that strengthens one of our community’s greatest natural assets — the Okanogan River. For years, residents have asked for a safe, practical way to reach the river from Legion Park. Rotary is helping make that long‑standing community request a reality.
If you stopped by our booth at the Farmer’s Market or visited us during Harvest Fest, you may have already seen this conceptual drawing and talked with Rotarians about the vision. We’re excited to share it here so the whole community can see what’s underway.
The first phase is a safe, sheltered watercraft access designed for kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, inner tubes and other non‑motorized watercraft. Legion Park has nearly ¼ mile of river frontage, yet no developed access. This project finally creates the connection our community needs.
Rotary’s Role & Project Snapshot
• Total project estimate: $301,000
• State grants requested: $270,000 (WWRP + ALEA)
• Rotary commitment: Up to $65,000 toward the local match
• Estimated construction: Fall 2027, if funding and approvals align
• Not a motorized boat launch — Alma Park will continue to serve that purpose
As Rotarians, we don’t see this access as the end of the project — we see it as the beginning. Once the river access is in place, our community can help shape what comes next: improved river views, benches, gathering areas, landscaping, recreation, history, public art, or even a future promenade. Rotary is committed to helping open the door, and then inviting the entire community in.
The River Access Project is our starting point. Where we go from here is up to all of us.
