Edward Jones - Financial Advisor: Douglas Sklar

Edward Jones - Financial Advisor: Douglas Sklar As a financial advisor, I believe proactive planning is the key to success. I have been with Edward Jones Investments in Omak, WA since July of 1992.

My job as a financial advisor is to be relentlessly solution-focused for the families that I have the privilege of working with. One of my responsibilities includes discussing solutions to problems and opportunities that clients are aware of as well as those that my 30 years of experience allows me to see that they may not. Prior to moving to Omak, I was an advisor with another firm in California.

Shortly after my wife, Jacque, and I moved to Washington, we had our son Stephen, who today is a successful Edward Jones financial advisor. Soon thereafter, we had our second son, Gregory. Greg currently is in law school at Seattle University and is heading in the direction of becoming an elder law attorney. His wife, Larissa, is in the early stages of starting her Edward Jones career with a focus on the Seattle market. In my practice, I believe that every person has a financial ship, and my clients are the captains of their ship. When we work together, I serve as the navigator/radar person. I do this by seeking to truly understand what is most important to them - whether they’re planning for retirement, investing the proceeds of a home sale or large settlement, or simply protecting the financial future of the ones that mean most. By taking the time to educate them on our established strategy and process, I help set a course for their goals. Finally, by proactively partnering throughout their lives, I continue my relentless solution-focus to help make sure those goals are reached. Because of our strategy and process, our team works with households from all over the country. I strive to impact my clients, my community, and everyone I come into contact with. My branch team and I look forward to serving you! Member SIPC.

Higher Treasury yields weighed on equities last week, renewing concerns about whether the economy and markets can withstand elevated rates. Despite the potential for seasonal volatility, resilient economic activity and strong corporate earnings support a constructive backdrop for equities.

Investment Strategist Brock Weimer explains what’s behind the move higher in long-term yields in the latest Weekly Market Wrap.

Inflation has trended lower, supporting the case for the Federal Reserve to keep policy rates steady. While the path back to the Fed's inflation target may not be perfectly smooth, strong earnings, healthy economic growth and resilient consumer spending continue to help support market strength.

Portfolio Strategist Tom Larm shares his perspective on the forces influencing markets and what it could mean for investors in the latest Weekly Market Wrap.

I’m a few days late posting this. Krysta was working remotely much of last week, and an eight-year anniversary post deserved a current picture together!

Eight years ago last week, Krysta started her first day with Edward Jones as a BOA trainee.

Within a couple of months, I knew there was something special about her and that she had a much bigger career ahead of her. I remember calling her into my office and telling her, “Krysta, you just won the lottery.”

What I meant was that I had decided she was going to be part of my long-term plan for the branch.

Well… eight years later, I can admit I was wrong.

Krysta didn’t win the lottery. I did.

I’ve had a front-row seat watching her go from BOA trainee, to BOA, to Senior BOA, preparing to become an Registered Branch Associate and then changing course and becoming one of the first 25 Associate Financial Advisors in the firm.

But titles don’t begin to tell the story.

Today, she is a leader in our branch and throughout our region. She coaches other associates, mentors financial advisors—many with considerably more tenure than she has—and has earned the respect of people throughout our organization.

There’s a tremendous comfort in coming to work every day knowing Krysta is beside me.

But perhaps the greater comfort is not coming to work and knowing she is there, steadily helping steer the ship and taking care of our clients and our team.

Eight years ago, I thought I was giving a young BOA trainee the opportunity of a lifetime.

Turns out, she was giving me one.

Happy 8th Edward Jones anniversary, Krysta.

You didn’t win the lottery.

I did.

The S&P 500 reached new highs as several key market headwinds began to ease. While record levels can make investors hesitant, history suggests that all-time highs have often been followed by continued gains, with long-term returns comparable to, or even better than, investing on a typical trading day.*

Angelo Kourkafas, Sr. Global Investment Strategist, shares his perspective on the forces driving markets higher and the implications for investors in the latest Weekly Market Wrap.
