Tennessee Members 1st Federal Credit Union

Tennessee Members 1st Federal Credit Union Proudly providing member-based financial services for over 70 years. A CDFI certified credit union. Why Should I Join a Credit Union?

Credit union membership offers many benefits. Here are just a few:

Credit unions are not-for-profit. This means that decisions are made with the members in mind, not a group of stockholders. The members own the credit union. A credit union is a financial cooperative. Members’ resources are pooled in order to provide low-cost, low-fee products. No matter how large or small a member’s accounts with

the credit union may be, that member has equal ownership in the credit union. This means that the member can:

Run for the Board of Directors (the Board is comprised of members who serve as volunteers, meeting each month). Serve on any one of the member-comprised committees. Attend and vote at the Annual Meeting. These benefits are unique to credit unions, and cannot be found at banks! The credit union legacy is a long and proud one, and as a credit union member, you can be a part of that legacy.

Buying a home can feel overwhelming, especially if it’s your first time.

One thing that helps? Preparing early.

Gathering things like income information, employment history, and current debts ahead of time can make the process feel much smoother when you’re ready to apply.

During National Homeownership Month, we’re reminding members that it's never too early to connect with an expert and start asking questions about the homebuying process.

Having a healthy savings account balance is a big accomplishment.

The next question is usually: “What should I do with it now?”

Maybe you want your savings to grow more steadily. Maybe you’re thinking longer-term about retirement, future plans, or just making your money work a little harder for you.

That’s where it can help to look at options beyond a basic savings account, whether that’s share certificates, money market accounts, IRAs, or sitting down with someone to build a plan that fits your goals.

You don’t have to have everything figured out before starting the conversation. Explore your options with CU Wealth Group advisors:

Kids are quick to absorb information simply by observing behaviors from others–including how their parents handle finances. The way we talk about money, save for things, or plan for the future often becomes the foundation for how kids approach managing money later in life.

That’s why we’ve been working on something new for younger members and their families.

Coming in June: a new youth savings account designed to help children and teens start building healthy financial habits early, with benefits created for growing families.

We’ll be sharing more details soon...including a few perks for members who get started early. Stay tuned!

A lot has changed in the last 80 years...

Technology, the way we manage our finances, the pace of every day life.

Through it all, our service has remained the same.

We still take the time to sit down and have a conversation.
We still look for ways to make things work when it matters to you.
We still prioritize our members over everything.

It’s what’s carried us through the last 80 years — and what will carry us into the next.

Scams are getting more convincing, and they're showing up everywhere.

On Senior Fraud Awareness Day, a quick reminder:
• Be cautious of unexpected calls, texts, or emails asking for personal information.
• Don’t feel pressured to act quickly. Urgency is a common tactic.
• Never share PINs, passwords, or verification codes.
• If something feels off, it’s always okay to pause and double-check.

And for those with parents, grandparents, or loved ones, a simple conversation can go a long way. Reminding them it’s okay to slow down and check with a trusted source can make all the difference.

We’ll never contact you asking for sensitive account information. If you’re unsure about something, you can always call us directly at 865-482-4343.

We're making a thoughtful change to how we support our communities.

Starting this year, our Community Giving efforts are shifting to a grant-based model, with a focus on investing in projects and organizations creating meaningful, lasting impact across our region.

This approach was shaped by conversations with our Advisory Board and Community Partners, with one goal in mind: to be more intentional about where and how we give.

Each year, we’ll award five $2,500 grants to nonprofit organizations serving our nine-county area. If you’re part of a nonprofit doing work in Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Knox, Loudon, Morgan, Roane, Scott, or Union County, we encourage you to apply.

The application is simple, straightforward, and designed to take less than 30 minutes.

➡️ Apply here before June 30th: https://trst.in/GjzCUX

We’re looking forward to learning more about the work happening across our communities, and finding new ways to support it.
