ICHRA for Insurance Agents: How One Employer Becomes 50 Enrollments

ICHRA turns one employer conversation into an entire company's worth of enrollments.

ICHRA lets an employer give each employee a fixed monthly allowance, tax free, to buy their own individual health plan. For agents, that means one employer relationship instead of one client at a time.

Here is what agents should know: over 20,000 US businesses now offer ICHRA or QSEHRA, large employer adoption more than doubled year over year, and ICHRA-covered lives crossed 500,000 in January 2026. Against 150 million people still on traditional group coverage, this market is barely started.

If you already sell ACA, you have the hard skill. If you sell Medicare, ICHRA reimburses Part A, B, C, D, and Medigap. Either way, IAD and Enrichly handle plan design, affordability testing, compliance, and reimbursements. You keep the client relationship and the commissions.

Pretty is nice. Compliant is better.

Every AEP campaign needs the basics checked before it goes live: correct language, approved assets, the right event type, and no benefit claims doing gymnastics.

Posting first and asking later is not speed. It is paperwork with consequences.

Before the season gets loud, clean up the marketing.

The life & health insurance market is moving quickly heading into the 2027 selling season.

Between Medicare plan changes, tighter ACA rules, shifting carrier strategies, and strong growth in life and annuity products, there is a lot for independent agents to keep an eye on.

โ€ข Medicare Advantage: More carrier pullbacks and plan-level commission changes as insurers continue adjusting their 2027 footprints.

โ€ข Part D: The standard deductible rises to $700 and the out-of-pocket threshold moves to $2,400 for 2027, with final plan details still coming in September.

โ€ข Med Supp: Medicare Advantage exits and qualifying significant network changes could create guaranteed-issue opportunities for some beneficiaries.

โ€ข ACA / Under 65: A shorter federal Open Enrollment window, tighter enrollment and marketing requirements, and proposed 2027 rate increases with a national median around 15%.

โ€ข Life + Final Expense: Final expense continues to stand out, with new annualized premium up 32% in 2025 and digital distribution helping drive growth.

โ€ข Annuities: Sales reached another record in Q2 2026, while state best-interest requirements remain an important part of every recommendation.

There is opportunity in this marketโ€”but knowing what changed, what is still pending, and what applies in your state matters.

New Medicaid Rule: Every State Must Send This Letter By August 31st!

Check your mail. Every state has to notify Medicaid enrollees about the new work requirement by August 31, and the letters are landing right now.

It is not a termination notice. In most states nobody loses coverage until January 1, 2027, though a few early states have already started. The letter explains the 80 hour requirement, who is exempt, and how to report.

Here is what most people do not know. You do not have to track hours at all. Earning 580 dollars in a single month satisfies it on its own. Your state also has to check payroll and claims data before asking you for a single document, so many people will never submit anything.

And if you are pregnant, medically frail, a caregiver, a disabled veteran, tribal, or already meeting SNAP or TANF rules, you are exempt entirely.

Read the letter when it lands and make sure your address is current with your state Medicaid office.

Agents, this is the week to call your Medicaid book. The clients who hear it from you first are the ones who do not panic.

You don't need more space. You need a setup that doesn't fall apart the first busy week.

One spot for calls. One spot for follow-up. One spot for paperwork. That's it.

Simple, on purpose, beats elaborate and broken.

What Happens After Your Client Leaves the Hospital?

After a hospital stay, the bills that do the most damage are usually the ones a health plan was never designed to cover. Rides to follow-up appointments. Meals. Yard work. The mortgage and car payment that do not pause while your client recovers.

In this clip of the Insurance Advisors Direct Ancillary Product Training, Scott Whittman, Regional Sales Manager for the Central Region at LifeSecure, breaks down the three P's behind financial protection products, walks through what a client actually faces in the weeks after a 10 day hospital stay, and explains why the recovery costs sit below the waterline where nobody is looking.

Here is what agents should know: copays, deductibles, and out of pocket maximums are the part clients already understand. The gap is everything that happens after discharge. Create the need first, then present the product.

Use this explanation with clients who believe their health plan covers everything.

If you are thinking about hospital indemnity, accident insurance, or critical illness coverage this enrollment period, this is a webinar you do not want to miss.

What Are Successful ICHRA Agents Doing Differently?

They lead with ICHRA instead of leading with a group renewal, and they sell it through far more than just employers.

In this clip from IAD's ICHRA webinar, Joe of Enrichly, IAD's ICHRA platform partner, breaks down why top producers open with the message that health insurance is broken and better options exist, how they expanded their distribution beyond employers into payroll companies, DPCs, voluntary benefits firms, PPOs, accountants, and even other brokers, and why national benefits firms are now referring individual business back to independent agents.

Here is what agents should know: employer ICHRA adoption nearly doubled year over year, but fewer than half of brokers are selling it. People will buy new ideas. You just have to get out into the marketplace.

If you are thinking about selling ICHRA, ICHRA prospecting, or building ICHRA referral partnerships, this is a webinar you do not want to miss.
