In honor of , we’re proud to spotlight valued Bank of Marin client Troy Carlson, owner of Stage Nine Entertainment and Stage 9 Exhibits—two locally owned businesses that have been shaping the Sacramento region for more than 30 years.
Founded by Troy, a Sacramento State graduate who launched his first business while still in college, Stage Nine Entertainment began as a 500 square foot gift shop and has grown into an 8,000 square foot retail destination and beloved community cornerstone. Located in the heart of the Old Sacramento Waterfront, the store delivers a nostalgic experience filled with toys, games, memorabilia, animation art, and even a classic candy and confectionery shop.
Just across the river in West Sacramento, Stage 9 Exhibits designs, builds, and tours immersive exhibits for museums, science centers, fairs, and special events around the world. Its work blends storytelling, craftsmanship, and innovation—creating immersive experiences that educate, engage, and inspire audiences of all ages.
Next month, Troy and his team will unveil The Paperworks, a reimagined space adjacent to Stage Nine Entertainment featuring specialty retail, eateries, bars, art galleries, and a second floor exhibition venue bringing world class traveling exhibits to the region.
With a team of 40 employees—many who’ve been part of the Stage Nine family for decades—Troy is most proud of the legacy he’s built: a workplace rooted in family, community, and camaraderie. Deeply invested in Sacramento, he understands firsthand how small businesses stay closely connected to the communities they serve.
Small businesses like these don’t just operate in Sacramento—they help make it a vibrant place to live, work, and explore.
