You guys are AMAZING! 🥜🍇

In just 30 days, Liz Moore & Associates collected 11,790 jars of peanut butter and jelly. That is a 76% increase over last year’s donation of 6,700 jars!

And I am proud to share that the Newport News office finished in first place again, collecting an incredible 4,438 jars.

While the friendly competition made the drive even more fun, the real victory is what these donations will mean for local food pantries, churches, charities, and the families they serve. The need in our community was greater than ever this year, and everyone truly rose to the challenge.

Thank you to every client, friend, neighbor, agent, and community member who donated, shared the drive, or helped collect jars. This was our most successful Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive yet, and it would not have happened without you!

York County voters will have an important local question on the ballot this November.

The Board of Supervisors has approved a referendum asking voters whether the county should be allowed to establish an additional 1% local sales and use tax.

If approved, the money would be dedicated to new school construction and major school renovation projects. York County estimates it could generate around $12 million per year.

A few things are important to understand:

The Board did not enact the tax. It approved placing the question before voters.

The revenue would be restricted to school capital projects rather than normal day-to-day school operating expenses.

This matters beyond the school buildings themselves. School facilities influence the experience of students and families, while local taxes affect residents, businesses and visitors.

For real estate, strong schools and well-maintained public facilities can support neighborhood demand. At the same time, buyers increasingly pay attention to the complete cost of living in a community.

Williamsburg has added something new to Merchants Square.

The City recently launched a yearlong pilot Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area along Duke of Gloucester Street between College Corner and Henry Street.

From noon until 9 p.m., customers can purchase an alcoholic drink from a participating restaurant, carry it in an official cup and enjoy it while visiting participating businesses inside the designated area.

This is a small change, but it is part of a larger conversation about what makes downtown Williamsburg active and enjoyable for locals—not just visitors.

Restaurants, outdoor seating, shops, walkability and community events are all part of the lifestyle people consider when deciding where to live.

For nearby businesses, the pilot may encourage visitors to stay longer and move between participating locations. For residents, it adds another option for a casual afternoon or evening downtown.

Of course, the details matter. The area needs to remain clean, safe and comfortable for families, residents, students and visitors.

A proposed York County development near Water Country Parkway is worth watching.

The current proposal involves 21.4 acres at 200 Water Country Parkway and would allow:

125 townhomes
A convenience store
A gas station

The York County Planning Commission recommended denial. The proposal is tentatively scheduled to go before the Board of Supervisors on August 18.

Whether you support it or not, this is exactly the type of local development that can affect daily life.

New townhomes could provide additional housing choices near Williamsburg and Interstate 64. The commercial portion could add convenience.

The other side of the conversation includes traffic, road access, infrastructure, neighborhood compatibility and whether this is the right use for the property.

For buyers, proposed development is a reminder to look beyond the house and research nearby land. For nearby homeowners, it is worth following because the final design and use could affect traffic patterns and how the area feels.

Williamsburg homeowners have a useful—and free—event coming up this weekend.

The new Greater Williamsburg Sports & Event Center is hosting the Williamsburg Home Owners Expo on Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26.

More than 100 contractors, designers, landscapers and other home-service providers are expected to participate. There will also be remodeling talks, master gardeners answering landscaping questions, free antique appraisals and activities for children.

Admission and parking are free.

If you own an older Williamsburg-area home, are planning a renovation or are getting a property ready to sell, this could be a good place to gather ideas and meet local providers in one trip.

Buyers may find it useful too. Understanding the likely cost of flooring, kitchens, landscaping or basic repairs can help you evaluate a home that needs some work.

The event is also one of the first major public events at the new sports center, so it is a chance to see the facility and how it may serve the community beyond athletic tournaments.

Yorktown’s Summer Events Show Why Waterfront Lifestyle Matters

One of the best ways to understand Yorktown is to spend a summer evening or Saturday morning at Riverwalk Landing.

The Sounds of Summer Concert Series continues Thursday, July 16, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Yorktown Market Days returns Saturday, July 18, from 8 a.m. to noon.

The new “Give Me Liberty: Virginia & the Forging of a Nation” exhibition is also open at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown as part of Virginia’s 250th anniversary.

These events are fun, but they also show why people are drawn to Yorktown.

Williamsburg Market Watch — past 7 days:

38 new listings
29 homes under contract

That tells us something pretty simple: more homes came on the market than went under contract this week.

For buyers, that is helpful. It means there may be a few more options to compare instead of feeling like you have to jump on the first decent house you see.

For sellers, it does not mean the market is slow. 29 homes still went under contract in just 7 days. Buyers are active — they are just paying attention to price, condition, location, and overall monthly payment.

The bigger picture is this: Williamsburg is still moving, but buyers have more choices than they did when inventory was extremely tight.

If you are selling, you need to be priced correctly from the start.

If you are buying, you may have a little more breathing room, but the good homes are still not sitting around forever.

Williamsburg is about to welcome athletes and families from across the country.

America’s Biggest Week in Football National Summer Showcase is scheduled for July 14 through July 21, with Warhill Sports Complex serving as the main location.

The event will include top high school, middle school, youth and female flag-football athletes. More than 40 NFL coaches and national college scouts are expected to attend.

This is a major sporting event, but the impact reaches beyond the football fields.

Thousands of visitors staying in local hotels, eating at local restaurants, shopping and visiting area attractions can provide a real boost to Greater Williamsburg businesses.

It also says something about the direction of our area. Williamsburg is known for history, golf and tourism, but sports tourism is becoming another important part of the local economy.
