🚗💪 Relief is almost here.
Yesterday, IDG members testified at an NYC Department of Transportation hearing in support of rules that would put our bathroom breaks law into action and give FHV drivers access to up to 13,000 short-term commercial metered parking spots in Manhattan.
For years, drivers have been forced to choose between risking a ticket that can wipe out much of a day’s pay or jeopardizing their health. The shortage is especially harmful to women. IDG member Michele Dottin told The City that conditions have become so desperate that some women drivers have asked whether they need to wear diapers to avoid an accident with a passenger in the car.
IDG fought for years to change this. Last year, the City Council passed our bill with Council Member Justin Brannan. Now NYC DOT must finalize the rules and deliver the relief drivers have fought for.
