In 1989, sponsors pulled their money over a cover story on abortion rights. The magazine folded. In 1990, it came back with zero ads, funded by readers alone, so no sponsor could ever tell it what to say again.

Dolly Parton has passed away. She was 80.

She grew up with nothing and spent her whole life making sure nobody else had to do the same. Over 300 million books mailed free to kids around the world. A career built and owned on her own terms, decades before the industry understood why that mattered. Businesses that will still open their doors because of the foundation she poured.

It’s a legacy that will keep living as long as humanity exists. Her memory will always be a treasure.
