💙 MEDICARE MONDAY | A Little Something Different This Week

September is Life Insurance Awareness Month, so today’s Medicare Monday is a good time to talk about something Medicare doesn’t cover — life insurance.

Medicare helps with many of your healthcare expenses, but it isn’t designed to help your family with things like:

• Funeral and final expenses
• Outstanding debts
• A mortgage or other household expenses
• Lost income for a surviving spouse
• Leaving something behind for the people you love

I spend a lot of time helping people prepare for Medicare and retirement, and life insurance is one of those things that can easily get pushed to the side.

You may already have exactly what you need. You may have coverage that made sense 10 or 20 years ago but hasn’t been reviewed since. Or you may not be sure what you have at all.

September is a great time to take a look.

We recently had our roof replaced, and I wanted to give a shoutout to Donny and the entire crew at Alpha Roofing and Construction Inc!

Thank you to everyone who joined us today at the Healthy Living Center! We had a great turnout and enjoyed partnering with Edward Jones - Financial Advisor: Dub Smith to provide helpful information and answer questions about planning for the future.

We truly appreciate everyone who took the time to attend, participate and connect with us. A special thank-you to the YMCA Healthy Living Center for continuing to provide such a welcoming space for these educational events!

As parents of an OU sophomore, this is something that's on our radar too.

OU sent students information today about its Student Health Plan, and it was a good reminder that there's an important question for any family with a student away at college:

It's not just “Does my student have health insurance?” — it's “How well does their health insurance work where they're going to school?”

If your college student is staying on your family health plan, it's worth checking:

• Are there in-network doctors and urgent care facilities near campus?
• What happens if they need to go to the ER?
• Is the network local, regional or nationwide?
• How does the plan handle care when they're away from home?

For many families, keeping their student on the family plan works great. For others, it may be worth comparing the available options.

If you have a college student and aren't sure how their health coverage works away from home, I'm happy to help you take a look and understand your options.

💙 MEDICARE MONDAY

Turning 65 later this year? You don't have to wait until your birthday to start figuring out Medicare.

In fact, getting an early start gives you time to understand your choices, compare your options, and avoid feeling rushed when it's time to enroll.

One thing I remind people all the time: there isn't one Medicare option that's best for everyone. Your doctors, prescriptions, budget, current coverage, and individual needs can all play a role in deciding what's right for you.
