How much house can you afford with a USDA loan in Texas? There is no single USDA maximum price.

First the household and the exact property address have to clear USDA eligibility. Then repayment income sets how large a payment you can carry. Household income for the program limit can include adults living in the home who are not on the loan — so payment approval and program eligibility are separate checks.

Texas property taxes, insurance, and USDA's guarantee fees also shape the payment. Put the address into USDA's current eligibility map before you fall in love with a house.

Does a home have to be "out in the country" to qualify for a USDA loan? No. USDA eligibility depends on the exact property address on USDA's current map and on total household income. Some areas near growing Texas metros qualify and some do not, so check the address, not the city name.

One surprise we see: a buyer can qualify for the payment and still be over USDA's household income limit, because income from an adult in the household who isn't on the loan can count toward the limit. Screen that early.
