For National Dog Rescue Day, I'm sharing Murphy's story:

Murphy's 81-year-old owner passed away suddenly, and I had promised her I would make sure he was cared for if anything ever happened. Murphy is a 7-year-old rescue who had been with her for four wonderful years—and he is truly the sweetest boy.

As a volunteer and foster with Sunshine Labrador Rescue in Florida, I reached out right away. We received several great applicants, but one family stood out: they drove four hours just to meet him. Today, Murphy is safely in a loving home—still adjusting and missing his person, but surrounded by comfort, patience, and kindness.

I've fostered three dogs this year, and this is the first time I cried when one left. But I also know this: Murphy is exactly where he's meant to be.
