A caring event in Bear inspires generosity in others:
On Sunday, August 23, 100 backpacks were provided for the homeless through a Thrivent Action Team event organized by one of our Liberty Team clients, Carla. This event took place at Faith Lutheran Church, in Bear, Delaware, and expanded to involve people beyond the church. Carla reports:
"One of our members has a ministry of assembling backpacks for homeless folks, filling the packs with food and hygiene items. She then gives the packs to organizations that work in communities where the homeless are living. She does this in memory of her son, who lost the battle with drug addiction several years ago. We packed 100 backpacks on Sunday morning.
The amazing story is also about how God multiplied the Action Team grant to inspire generosity in others. Several folks who are not associated with our congregation heard about this ministry and the planned Action Team event, and they made substantial contributions of money and/or supplies. Church members also contributed supplies for backpacks, and 25 church members and visitors stayed after services on Sunday to stuff the packs. We also enjoyed a visit from Kezia, the comfort dog from Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Baltimore, and learned about this important ministry as well."
