SWBC Mortgage Salutes Our Military: Ebbing Air National Guard Base is an airfield adjacent to the Fort Smith, Arkansas, Regional Airport. Since 1953, the Arkansas Air National Guard's 188th Wing (188 WG) has been based at the airfield. Formerly a fighter wing that previously operated F-4 Phantom II, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft, the 188th Wing currently features three primary mission sets: Remotely Piloted Aircraft (MQ-9 Reaper); ISR (Distributed Ground Station-Arkansas); and Targeting (Space-Focused). Earlier this year, the Air Force selected Ebbing Air National Guard Base as the preferred location to establish an F-35 Lightning II training center for Foreign Military Sales participants, including the new location for the 425th Fighter Squadron, a Republic of Singapore F-16 Fighting Falcon training unit. The branch team at SWBC Mortgage Fort Smith has been a key neighbor to the base for many years, helping active duty members, their families, and retired veterans with homebuing guiadiance and assistance.

SWBC Mortgage Salutes Our Military: Marine Corps Base (MCB) Quantico is located near Triangle, Virginia, covering nearly 55,148 acres across southern Prince William County, northern Stafford County, and southeastern Fauquier County. Used primarily for training purposes, MCB Quantico is known as the "Crossroads of the Marine Corps". The USMC Combat Development Command comprises the majority of the base’s community of over 12,000 military and civilian personnel (including families), and is also the home of the Marine Corps Officer Candidates School. SWBC Mortgage, and our numerous branch teams across the Beltway region, are proud to support the USMC and all of our activity duty military members, their families, and veterans who reside in the greater Virginia and Maryland communities.

SWBC Mortgage Salutes Our Military: Hill Air Force Base is a major U.S. Air Force facility located in northern Utah, just south of the city of Ogden, and 30 miles north of Salt Lake City. Hill AFB is one of the largest employers in the state, and is home of the Air Force Materiel Command's (AFMC) Ogden Air Logistics Complex. AFMC is the worldwide manager for a wide range of aircraft, engines, missiles, software, avionics, and accessories components. Ogden, and nearby Bountiful, Utah, is also home to two SWBC Mortgage branches, whose teams pride themselves on the support and outreach they provide for active duty members and veterans that also call the Hill AFB area home.

SWBC Mortgage Salutes Our Military: The United States Coast Guard (USCG) is the maritime security, search and rescue, and law enforcement service branch of the United States Armed Forces, and one of the country's eight uniformed services. USCG District 13—pictured here during a search and rescue exercise—has responsibilities across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. District 13 has more than 3,000 active duty and reserve members, civilian employees, and auxiliaries, and the command operates 21 cutters, 132 boats, and 11 aircraft. SWBC Mortgage is proud to serve the military and veterans across the Pacific Northwest, with our newest branches in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Albany, Bend/Sunriver, Pendleton, and Redmond, Oregon; and Walla Walla and Yakima, Washington State.

SWBC Mortgage Salutes Our Military: U.S. Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia is the world’s largest naval installation, and serves as the headquarters and home port of the U.S. Navy's Fleet Forces Command. The installation occupies about 4 miles of waterfront space and 11 miles of pier and wharf space of the Hampton Roads peninsula known as Sewell's Point. Naval Station Norfolk consists of the largest concentration of U.S. Navy forces, including 75 ships alongside 14 piers, and over 134 aircraft and 11 aircraft hangars at the adjacently operated Chambers Field. SWBC Mortgage’s eight branches across Virginia and Maryland continue their tradition of providing friendly and helpful homeownership advice to Norfolk, Annapolis, and the vast numbers of local active duty members and veterans alike.

SWBC Mortgage Salutes Our Military: Nellis Air Force Base in southern Nevada houses more air squadrons than any other USAF base, and is also home base to the famed Air Demonstration Squadron “Thunderbirds”. Created 68 years ago in 1953, the USAF Thunderbirds are the third-oldest formal flying aerobatic team in the world. Nellis hosts several important air combat exercises, and is also associated with the nearby Nevada Test and Training Range (NTTR). The base is also the location of the Combined Air and Space Operations Center-Nellis. Three of SWBC Mortgage’s local branches also call southern Nevada home, and many of our team members can often be sighted attending air shows and supporting other activities at this famed military installation.

SWBC Mortgage Salutes Our Military: Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, is the Army's premier installation to train and deploy heavy forces. A 214,968-acre installation, Fort Hood is the only U.S. post capable of stationing and training two armored divisions. SWBC Mortgage’s Killeen and Temple branches, led by managers Leslie Lovett and by Retired Army (and Ft. Hood) Veteran Jimmy Alexander, are a model of local support for Army Families. The team often leads several charitable drives each year to help active duty and retired/disabled military members and their families make ends meet, including significant donations of gift cards, baby/child care items, and holiday presents.

San Antonio is known as Military City U.S.A.®. And it’s also where SWBC Mortgage calls home. Our region has one of the largest concentrations of military installations in the world, including Joint Base San Antonio, which comprises JBSA-Fort Sam Houston, JBSA-Lackland, and JBSA-Randolph. JBSA Fort Sam Houston is also home to Brooke Army Medical Center (BAM-C), the United States Army's premier medical institution. BAM-C is the U.S. military's largest medical facility, and its only Level 1 Trauma Center. Over 39,000 students graduate from training at JBSA each year, and thousands of veterans decide to retire in the Alamo City as well. SWBC Mortgage is proud to serve our neighbors in uniform, and we also have a long tradition of welcoming veterans who later join our team in San Antonio and across the nation.

SWBC Mortgage Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month: Did you know there are now more Hispanic CEOs at S&P 500 companies than ever? 2021 marks 40 years since the first Hispanic was named as a CEO of a public company—in 1981, Robert Goizueta was named CEO of Coca Cola. There are now 16 Hispanic CEOs at S&P 500 companies, according to the Latino Corporate Directors Association (LCDA). Esther Aguilera, President & CEO of the LCDA, states that “Historically, Latinos have been overlooked for C-suite roles and especially for CEO positions. Progress has also yet to be made for Latinas, who’ve so far have held only one CEO role, and none currently. In a field where females still struggle to break the glass ceiling, Latina chef Daniela Soto-Innes serves as a cultural and culinary icon. Born in Mexico City, she moved to Texas at the age of 12. Her focus was on competitive swimming until she turned 20, when she decided to switch gears and study at the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Austin, Texas. An outstanding student, Daniela later trained in Europe and New York under several top chefs. In 2014, she helped to open the modern Mexican restaurant Cosme in New York City, serving as the Chef de Cuisine. In 2016, she received the James Beard Award for Rising Star Chef. In partnership with chef Enrique Olvera, she opened another New York restaurant, Atla, in 2017. SWBC Mortgage Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month: El Museo del Barrio is a trailblazing facility whose mission is to present and preserve the art and culture of Puerto Ricans and all Latin Americans in the United States. El Museo was founded over 50 years ago in New York by artist and educator Raphael Montañez Ortiz and a coalition of Puerto Rican parents, educators, artists, and activists—who all realized mainstream museums were largely ignoring Latino artists. Through its extensive collections, varied exhibitions and publications, bilingual public programs, educational activities, festivals and special events, El Museo educates a diverse public in the richness of Caribbean and Latin American arts and cultural history.
