The Pipe Trades Local 539 Training Center is where future pipefitters and HVAC service technicians train for the real world. Apprentices get hands-on experience in welding, pipe fabrication, commercial HVAC systems, refrigeration, controls, blueprint reading, and system troubleshooting using the same equipment and technology they’ll see out on the job.

From keeping Minnesota buildings heated in the dead of winter to maintaining complex cooling systems during the summer, Local 539 members play a huge role in keeping our communities comfortable, safe, and running efficiently.

The skill and problem-solving taught at this training center help build the backbone of Minnesota’s commercial and industrial infrastructure every single day.

Summer usually means road trips, cabin weekends, vacations, weddings, and more swiping of the debit card.

Here’s something most people don’t realize:
Using a credit card for travel expenses instead of your debit card can actually protect your checking account from fraud holds and disputes.

If your debit card gets compromised at a gas pump, hotel, or online booking site, that money leaves your account immediately while the bank investigates.
With a credit card:

✔️ Your checking account cash stays untouched

From commercial flat roofing systems and waterproofing to safety training and hands-on skill development, apprentices and journeymen alike train here to master the craft and keep Minnesota buildings protected year-round.

Roofing isn’t easy work. It takes grit to work through Minnesota heat, wind, rain, and brutal winters.. all while building and protecting the structures people rely on every day.

This training center helps prepare the next generation of skilled union roofers with the real-world experience and technical knowledge needed to succeed in the trade.

Behind every smooth ride is a highly skilled union workforce keeping Minnesota moving safely.

At the International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 9 training center in Little Canada, apprentices train in the installation, repair, modernization, and maintenance of elevators, escalators, moving walkways, and other complex conveyance systems.

Through the National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP), members receive hands-on classroom and field training focused on electrical systems, mechanics, welding, safety, troubleshooting, and precision installation work.

🧰 Financial Toolbox Tip Tuesday: Fraud Red Flags

Scammers are getting more convincing, especially through fake fraud texts and phone calls pretending to be your financial institution.

A few quick reminders:
🚩 Your financial institution will NEVER ask for:
• your online banking password
• your debit card PIN
• security codes sent to your phone
🚩 Be cautious of urgency.
Fraudsters want you to panic and act fast before you can think it through.
🚩 Phone numbers can be spoofed.
Even if the call or text looks legitimate, verify before responding.

✅ Best practice:
Hang up and contact your financial institution directly using the number on the back of your card or their official website.

A few extra minutes of caution can protect your account and your money.
