π BIG NEWS FOR MEDICARE BENEFICIARIES INTERESTED IN GLP-1 WEIGHT LOSS MEDICATIONS
Beginning July 1, 2026, Medicare will launch a temporary program called the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, which may allow eligible Medicare beneficiaries to access certain GLP-1 weight loss medications for a $50 monthly copay. The program is currently scheduled to run through December 31, 2027.
A few important things to know:
β
This program is administered directly by CMS (Medicare), not by your Medicare Part D or Medicare Advantage plan.
β
Eligibility requirements apply and must be verified by your healthcare provider.
β
Your provider must submit a prior authorization request on your behalf.
β
The program is intended for qualifying weight management use and does not replace existing Medicare drug coverage for conditions such as diabetes, certain cardiovascular conditions, or sleep apnea.
β
Because this program is separate from your Medicare drug plan, the $50 copay does NOT apply toward your Part D deductible or your annual Part D maximum out-of-pocket costs.
If you think you may qualify, your first step should be a conversation with your physician to discuss whether a GLP-1 medication is appropriate for you and whether you meet the program requirements.

As always, I'm happy to help explain how Medicare works, but eligibility and enrollment in this program will be determined by CMS and your healthcare provider.
