🚨 $1.625 billion is available to specialty crop farmers through USDA's Assistance for Specialty Crop Farmers program. These payments provide financial support to allow producers to pay for production and marketing inputs in the face of significant market disruptions and elevated input costs during the 2025 growing season. The deadline to apply is Aug. 7, 2026.

On June 1, producers with a http://Login.gov account can access and submit their pre-filled application at fsa.usda.gov/ascf, and beginning June 8, producers can request their pre-filled application from their USDA Farm Service Agency county office. Payments will be issued as applications are submitted and approved, beginning as early as the first week of signup.

The House passed the Farm Bill today (224–200), marking the first major step forward since 2018.

I was in Washington, D.C. last week meeting with North Dakota legislators, advocating for progress on this and working to help get it across the finish line while protecting the integrity of what’s already been built.

We’re staying close to this as it moves forward and will keep our producers informed.

Working for North Dakotans on Capitol Hill 🌾🇺🇸

Last week, I (Grant Johnson) had the privilege of traveling to Washington, D.C. as part of a delegation of North Dakota Big “I” insurance agents to advocate on behalf of North Dakota’s agricultural community and everyday residents facing rising insurance premiums and the challenges of a hard insurance market.

As a member of the ND Big “I” delegation, we met with Senator John Hoeven, Senator Kevin Cramer, and Representative Julie Fedorchak in their offices to discuss critical issues impacting our state—from the state of the Farm Bill to the financial realities producers are up against, and the overall insurance market pressures North Dakotans have been facing in recent years.

Later, in my role as a member of the IIABA National Crop Insurance Subcommittee, we had the opportunity to meet with Senator John Boozman, Chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee, in the Senate Agriculture Committee Hearing Room. Senator Boozman emphasized his commitment to “putting more farm in the Farm Bill”—a phrase he said he picked up from a North Dakota farmer during an event he attended in our state alongside Senator Hoeven. It’s clear that message stuck with him.

We covered key issues, including:
• The expiration of the 2018 Farm Bill and the outlook for a new Farm Bill in 2025
• Rising input costs and pressures on farm operations
• AIP assistance for states experiencing high loss ratios

It was an honor to represent our state and stand up for the communities and producers who form the backbone of North Dakota and U.S. agriculture.
