Those tiny arrows beside the date actually mean something important.

This is an 1854 Seated Liberty half dollar with Arrows.

Those arrows were added after the U.S. Mint reduced the coin's silver weight in the 1850s.

This is a Planchet Transport Container!

This reinforced steel container was used at the Denver Mint to transport gold dollar planchets (unfinished coin blanks) between stages of the minting process. Built to securely carry substantial weight, each container was sealed, tracked, and handled under strict controls to ensure full accountability of the precious metals it held.

Through utilitarian in design, containers like these were essential to transforming raw gold into circulating coinage, reflecting the precision, security, and scale of modern U.S. Mint operations.
