Another phase of the Wenger/Webb merger will be taking place this Friday, August 28 – our phone systems will be converting to the same platform for the ease of our mutual customers. We will still be waiting at the end of the line to offer you great service, but the process to get there will be slightly different. When you call our office, there will be an automated message, and you will need to press zero to get to the main receptionist (this helpfully weeds out the spammers). A live person will then pick up the line, and you can give your full name or ask for your account manager, and the receptionist will be happy to transfer your call as needed. Our phone number will remain the same at (419) 229-3000, so call us with any of your insurance needs!

Chances for severe weather tonight are increasing. Have ways to be notified of warnings and have your emergency protocols prepared!

SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE: This is a look at the latest tornado, wind, and hail risk from the Storm Prediction Center.

Since yesterday, the tornado threat has increased in NW Ohio, as indicated by the 10% (yellow) highlighting, and the "hatching" overlaid on top of it. This means that around sunset, a couple of strong storms do have the potential to produce a tornado or two. If these tornadoes do develop, they could be on the strong side (EF-2) or greater. These tornadoes will not be highly visible if they develop because they would be occurring around of after sunset. Those in the brown or green areas also need to be on the lookout for strong storms capable of producing tornadoes. These tornadoes would potentially be weaker, but occurring at night, so the danger is relatively the same.

The damaging wind threat has increased a bit as well, especially west of I-75. This is the most likely type of severe weather to occur tonight, after dark. Storms will be ongoing after midnight, especially in central and northeast Ohio. Storms will gradually weaken heading east towards morning, but anyone in the yellow shading should be aware of damaging wind potential.

Large hail would be most likely in western Ohio as well, at the same time as the highest tornado threat. This will diminish after dark,. but isolated quarter sized hail cannot be ruled out even a few hours after dark.

The bottom line: This has the potential to be an "elevated" or "enhanced" risk for severe storms tonight. While it is not a typical hot and humid June day, the dynamics in the atmosphere are more like an April day, so the severe weather risk is high, despite the lack of surface humidity and heat this morning. Stay weather aware, and have a way to be awakened if severe storms develop tonight.

Don't forget that you can download the Ohio News and Weather app from the App Store and Google Play! Today would be an excellent day to try it out. If you have a NOAA weather radio, tonight would be a good night to make sure it is on and ready to receive warnings. - 10 AM Wednesday June 17th, Meteorologist Mike Joyce
