One of you handles the money. You both know which one.
If something happened to you next month, how long would it take the other person to figure out what you have and where it is?
I don’t mean the passwords. I mean whether they’d understand what they’re looking at.
Which accounts exist. Which one the income comes from. What’s already been decided and what hasn’t. Who to call.
I’ve sat with people doing this work for the first time in the worst month of their life, trying to reconstruct a financial picture from paper they’d never had reason to look at before. It’s a terrible time to be learning.
If you’re the one who handles it, this isn’t really your risk. It’s theirs.
You don’t need a binder. You need the other person to be able to sit down and see the whole thing. That’s a couple of conversations, not a project.
When could you both sit down and go through it?
