World Humanitarian Day is a reminder that meaningful change often begins with something simple: showing up.
In recognition of the day, our office closed early so our team could donate our time at Switchpoint Exchange Thrift Store in Layton. We spent the afternoon serving alongside an organization whose work reaches far beyond the walls of a thrift store.
Switchpoint is dedicated to helping individuals and families experiencing homelessness throughout Utah by providing services, resources, and opportunities that help people move toward greater stability and independence. Through nearly 30 social enterprises across the state, including thrift stores, coffee shops, child care facilities, gardens, and pet day cares, Switchpoint has created ways for communities to support that mission in practical and lasting ways.
What made our time at the Layton store especially meaningful was learning that it primarily supports Switchpoint's nearby teen living center, which provides a stable home for young people experiencing homelessness while they work to finish school.
It was a powerful reminder that humanitarian work does not always happen somewhere far away. Sometimes it happens right in our own communities: in the time we give, the hands we lend, and the way we choose to care for our neighbors.
We are grateful for the opportunity to step away from our desks, serve together, and support an organization doing important work for Utah's youth and families.
A few hours may feel small, but when people come together with compassion and purpose, small acts can become part of something much bigger.
